“The best cottage I’ve ever been to.”

Dorothy Stefanczyk visited Downe cottages in north Devon, with husband Craig and their daughter Daisy, 20 months.

Our cottage was well equipped and beautifully furnished by the owners, who know exactly what young parents need for a successful holiday. All you need is supplied and there’s a separate building with a laundry room and a huge fridge-freezer. There’s a new health spa with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, as well as beauty treatments and natural therapies.

Located halfway between Bideford and Bude, the cottages are surrounded by stunning countryside, with rugged coastline a short drive away. There’s a playground in the cottages’ enclosed fields, and for older kids, an amusement park nearby. The cottage isn’t cheap to rent, but I felt it was worth every penny for such a wonderfully relaxing break.

Highlight Being offered tea and made to feel so welcome on arrival.
Low point There wasn’t one – I totally recommend this holiday.
Travelling time 1 1/4 hours by car from Exeter; 4 hours from London.
